Buckaroo Ball

June 5, 2019 by Dave Munsick 2 Comments

When you think back to the grand old turn of the century days of the west, you can’t help but think of Buffalo Bill Cody and his Wild West Show.  Sure, Bill may have been a little bit full of himself but you’ve got to give him credit for painting a picture of a recently tamed west that he pushed out to a world that was hungry for romance and excitement.  One of the places Bill was able to do this was in Sheridan, Wyoming at the Sheridan Inn – a place that Bill actually helped to design and manage.  The Inn was built a hop and a skip from the railroad tracks so folks from all over the world could come and experience the western life in the emerging town of Sheridan and in the shadow of the majestic Bighorn Mountains. He made sure it was a top drawer affair with electric lights, hot and cold running water, the iconic Buffalo Bill Bar and a 160 seat dining hall.

I guess I had about the same vision as Bill did when I wrote this song when I decided to put on a dance in its honor with my good buddies from around the west coming to back me up and I called it “The Buckaroo Ball”. It was a big time that we all had that fall evening when the music was western and the dancing was close. 25 years later, I did it once again – this time with my boys backing me up and this time, once again, the place was packed with folks who shared a love of the west and a desire to dance away the beautiful evening with their honey.  Long live the spirit of Buffalo Bill, The Sheridan Inn, and the kind of west that they stand for.
